CHESTER, Pa. - Colorado held off Philadelphia's second-half charge as the 10-manned Rapids played to a scoreless draw with the Union on Saturday in opener for both teams.

The Rapids had three 0-0 games last season and the Union played in two.

Philadelphia's best scoring chance came in the 86th minute. Cristian Maidana sent in a free kick from the edge of the 18-yard box, but Conor Casey's redirected header was blocked by quick-reacting Clint Irwin. Casey replaced Sebastien Le Toux a minute earlier.

Casey had another header sail just wide in the fifth minute of extra time.

Colorado's Bobby Burling received his second yellow card in the 68th minute after a takedown of Le Toux near midfield.

Jim Curtin, Philadelphia's 2014 interim coach, returned for his first full season at the helm. The Union finished last season one spot out of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Colorado had just eight wins and was eighth in the Western Conference.
