Devils sign Zajac to eight-year, $46M contract extension
After losing Zach Parise to free agency, the New Jersey Devils didn't make the same mistake with centre Travis Zajac. Zajac was signed to an eight-year, $46 million contract with the Devils on Wednesday, ending any chance that New Jersey would lose its No. 1 centre after this season. Waiving Goodbye
One day after the NHL and NHL Players' Association reached an agreement on an accelerated compliance buyout, the Montreal Canadiens placed Scott Gomez on unconditional waivers on Wednesday. Should he clear waivers on Thursday at Noon et, Montreal will be able to buy him out. Full Story.
Sweet Home Chicago
The Bears hired Montreal Alouettes coach Marc Trestman on Wednesday to replace the fired Lovie Smith, hoping he can get the most out of quarterback Jay Cutler and make Chicago a playoff team on a consistent basis. It's the first head coaching job in the NFL for Trestman, who spent the past five seasons coaching the CFL's Alouettes and led them to two Grey Cup titles. Full Story.
