Schultz Picks: Hamilton

World Picks: Saskatchewan
SSK 43 HAM 16.
Saskatchewan Wins.

This game features two teams with new head coaches, and both squads are looking to improve in different ways. The Roughriders are looking to go from last in the West last season into the playoffs, and much of that will fall to the influence and energy of their new coach Corey Chamblin. For the Ticats, they're looking to transform themselves from average to great as quickly as possible. George Cortez inherits a team that has been 9-9, 9-9 and 8-10 last season. I think I know who gets the fast start to the season: Saskatchewan 19, Hamilton 29

B.C. Wins.

In terms of personnel, the Lions may be better right now than when they beat the Bombers in last year's Grey Cup. After losing the first five games of the 2011 season, the Lions went 13-2 including the playoffs the rest of the way. I expect the Bombers to have an excellent defence, but their offense is an unknown as Buck Pierce and the rest of the offence have to try to master offensive coordinator Gary Crowton's system. BC 27, Winnipeg 19

World Picks: Toronto
TOR 15 EDM 19.
Edmonton Wins.

There is a lot of drama and interesting sub-stories in this one. Ricky Ray's return to Edmonton and the Eskimos going with Steven Jyles is the main one. The Argos have to adjust to Chris Jones' and his style of defence, as well as Scott Milanovich's first game as a head coach. In Week 1, I have to go with the continuity of the Eskimos against a set of Toronto receivers who have not mastered timing with their starting quarterback yet. Toronto 21, Edmonton 34

Schultz Picks: Montreal

World Picks: Montreal
MTL 10 CGY 38.
Calgary Wins.

The ‘Big 3' of Anthony Calvillo, Jamel Richardson and Brandon Whitaker are more established and experienced that the Stampeders trio of Drew Tate, Nik Lewis and Jon Cornish. Coming off last season, the Alouettes now must regenerate the respect and fear that they used to have throughout the league. That process starts in Game 1. Montreal 40, Calgary 20

Through 8 games, Schultz is 5-3. The World is 4-4.
Schultz currently leads with 5 wins.
