Week 16 Picks

Atlanta (-4.0)
@
Detroit
Schultz Picks: Atlanta

World Picks: 87.1% - Atlanta
ATL 31 DET 18 Atlanta Wins
Your Pick:

The Falcons are coming off their best win of the year, a 34-0 victory over the Giants. The Lions are coming off their worst loss of the year, a 38-10 loss in Arizona. With a 13th win, the Falcons can wrap up home field for the entire NFC playoffs. The best aspect of Lions football is that Calvin Johnson is 184 yards away from the all-time receiving record held by Jerry Rice. There isn't a Falcon player or any player anywhere that wants to be on that highlight film. Professional pride vs. professional talent. Falcons by a touchdown.

New Orleans
@
Dallas (-1.0)
Schultz Picks: Dallas

World Picks: 55.6% - New Orleans
NO 34 DAL 31 New Orleans Wins
Your Pick:

This is a classic story of a team that has nothing to lose - New Orleans - and a team that has everything to lose - Dallas. Tony Romo is playing his best right now, with 12 touchdown passes and only three interceptions over the last three games. And he keeps plays alive no matter the situation. The Saints' 41-0 win over the Bucs was misleading. Four Bucs interceptions and a fumble determined the game. Yes, Dallas got lucky too. The fumble kick return and the Brandon Carr interception were critical but with last moment wins over Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, Dallas responds too because they have been under pressure all season long. Dallas.

Cincinnati
@
Pittsburgh (-4.0)
Schultz Picks: Cincinnati

World Picks: 51.0% - Cincinnati
CIN 13 PIT 10 Cincinnati Wins
Your Pick:

The Bengals have not beaten the Steelers since 2009. Cincinnati has lost six in a row to Pittsburgh and that does create almost a subconscious belief that it will never happen. Still, the Bengals have won five of six and played last Thursday. For Pittsburgh, they do have the Bengals' number and you can rationalize that the loss in Dallas was on two self-destructive plays - a fumble on a kick-return and the Brandon Carr interception. Both teams know this is a playoff game before the playoffs start. With four points to work with, I pick the Bengals.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

Tennessee
@
Green Bay (-13.0)
Schultz Picks: Tennessee

World Picks: 61.2% - Green Bay
TEN 7 GB 55 Green Bay Wins
Your Pick:

Green Bay needs to continue to win to keep the possibility of a bye week and as many playoff home games as possible. The Packers really don't blow out teams; the last three wins have been by seven, seven and nine. They are getting healthy but need Mason Crosby to improve fast. He misses pretty much a field goal a game. For Tennessee, Jake Locker looks confident and Chris Johnson looks explosive, so Packers win but not by 13. Tennessee.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

Indianapolis (-6.5)
@
Kansas City
Schultz Picks: Indianapolis

World Picks: 89.4% - Indianapolis
IND 20 KC 13 Indianapolis Wins
Your Pick:

Last week in Houston, the Colts ran into a pass rush from the Texans that was devastating. I don't think the Chiefs can do the same. The Colts had only 119 net yards in Houston - just one of those games you learn from and move on. If there is one team that wants to end the season and move on, it's the Chiefs. Colts bounce back and cover.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

Buffalo
@
Miami (-4.5)
Schultz Picks: Miami

World Picks: 76.4% - Miami
BUF 10 MIA 24 Miami Wins
Your Pick:

The Dolphins have been competitive over the last four games, winning two of those contests. The Bills had to experience a 50-17 loss in Toronto and there is no way to determine how they will respond. The first meeting between these two teams was back in Week 11 and Buffalo won 19-14. Given the present and recent history, this one could be different. Miami covers the points.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

San Diego
@
NY Jets (-3.0)
Schultz Picks: San Diego

World Picks: 78.7% - San Diego
SD 27 NYJ 17 San Diego Wins
Your Pick:

Not a lot to assess in this game as the Chargers were destroyed by Carolina in San Diego and the Jets looked unprofessional in Tennessee. Greg McElroy will make his first pro start, a seventh-round pick out of Alabama, while the Chargers may be down to their three running backs. They went from a season-high, beating Pittsburgh 34-24, to a season-low in losing to Carolina 31-7. Rookie QB versus a veteran QB; I will take Rivers. Chargers.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

Washington (-5.5)
@
Philadelphia
Schultz Picks: Washington

World Picks: 89.1% - Washington
WSH 27 PHI 20 Washington Wins
Your Pick:

I like Washington. Not only because they have a NFC divisional title to play for but logic says in the last two games for the Eagles, Redskins and Giants, they will see how young players react under game situations. The first Eagles/Redskins game was an easy 31-6 win for Washington back in Week 11 and that was the start of five wins in a row. How important is the draft? Mike Shanahan picked up Griffin, Cousins at QB and Alfred Morris at running back in the first, fourth and sixth rounds. Redskins cover.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

St. Louis
@
Tampa Bay (-3.0)
Schultz Picks: St. Louis

World Picks: 57.7% - Tampa Bay
STL 28 TB 13 St. Louis Wins
Your Pick:

The Bucs seem like a burned-out team to me. Long season, tough new coach and December football. The Rams are already talking about next year. Jeff Fisher and Greg Schiano both have done exceptional jobs as coaches with new teams but St. Louis still has a spark, the Bucs seem to be fading. St. Louis.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

Oakland
@
Carolina (-9.0)
Schultz Picks: Carolina

World Picks: 74.8% - Carolina
OAK 6 CAR 17 Carolina Wins
Your Pick:

The story going into this game is Cam Newton for the Panthers. He has thrown 152 passes without a single interception and is the team's leading rusher with 647 yards. As they did last year, Carolina is going to finish strong and with wins over Oakland and at New Orleans, they could finish with wins in five of the last six games. Oakland did beat Kansas City, 15-0, but you know K.C. will not be the same until the 2013 season, and even then there is no guarantee. Panthers cover the 9.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

New England (-14.0)
@
Jacksonville
Schultz Picks: New England

World Picks: 87.6% - New England
NE 23 JAC 16 Jacksonville Wins
Your Pick:

I think New England will come out focused and efficient and waste no time. Only four times this year has Jacksonville scored more than 20 points. In Miami, they could only score three last week. If Tom Brady can score 28 straight on San Francisco to get the Patriots back in the game, he can beat the Jaguars by more than 14. New England covers.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

Minnesota
@
Houston (-9.0)
Schultz Picks: Houston

World Picks: 55.1% - Minnesota
MIN 23 HOU 6 Minnesota Wins
Your Pick:

This is actually a good challenge for Houston at a good time. With Adrian Peterson only 294 yards away from breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season record, everyone on defence has a new purpose and resolve to play their best. The secret to keeping Peterson under control is to keep him off the field; Arian Foster may get 30 carries this game. And I almost forgot, if Houston wins they get home field through the AFC playoffs. So important, as they don't want to go back to New England with memories of 42-14 just two games ago. Houston covers 9.

4:05 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

Cleveland
@
Denver (-14.0)
Schultz Picks: Denver

World Picks: 68.3% - Denver
CLE 12 DEN 34 Denver Wins
Your Pick:

I promised myself I would never go against Peyton Manning again and I'm going to stick to it. Usually teams that slow down Manning are those in the division. Cleveland is in the conference, not the division. Also if Kirk Cousins can score 38 so can Manning. Denver is still in competition for a first round bye and maybe one game in Denver unless Houston falters. Denver covers 14.

4:25 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

Chicago (-5.0)
@
Arizona
Schultz Picks: Chicago

World Picks: 82.7% - Chicago
CHI 28 ARI 13 Chicago Wins
Your Pick:

The Bears are still a good team defensively, indicated by holding the Packers to 21 points last week. For Arizona, the 38-10 win over Detroit was the first time they have scored more than 19 points in the last 10 games. A good sign for Arizona was after losing to Seattle 58-0 they came back with a win, which does say a lot. The Bears have lost four of five, and the Cardinals nine of 10 but still have a playoff shot and can go 10-6. Bears by 7.

4:25 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

NY Giants (-1.0)
@
Baltimore
Schultz Picks: NY Giants

World Picks: 56.8% - NY Giants
NYG 14 BAL 33 Baltimore Wins
Your Pick:

The Ravens go from Peyton to Eli Manning and the drop off in QB play is minimal. The unknown is how both teams respond from adversity. For the Giants, a 34-0 loss to Atlanta last week was a humbling experience that tests resolve and confidence. For Baltimore, losing two home games in a row is crushing after winning 15 in a row previously. Having Ahmed Bradshaw back at running back is big for the Giants, and the change at offensive coordinator did little for Baltimore as the Ravens in their first five possessions had zero first downs and only 24 yards. Both teams are desperate but Manning #2 is as good as Manning #1. Giants.

8:20 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012

San Francisco (-1.0)
@
Seattle
Schultz Picks: Seattle

World Picks: 54.5% - Seattle
SF 13 SEA 42 Seattle Wins
Your Pick:

Earlier in the season, it was Seattle at San Francisco and the final was 13-6 49ers, but Seattle gave them a game. 49ers are good but Seattle is better now than they were back then. Yes, Seattle outscored Buffalo and Arizona 108-17. But, the 49ers when they played the Bills and Cardinals won by a combined 69-6. Not sure if those numbers mean that much. What does is Russell Wilson playing at Century Link Field, home of the Seahawks. Yes, the 49ers did beat New England in December after 13 straight wins, can they do it two weeks in a row against a Seahawk team that is undefeated at home. Yes, no, maybe? I say, no. Seattle wins by 3.
