Week 12 Picks

New OrleansNew Orleans (-9.5)

Schultz Picks: New Orleans

World Picks: 86.1% - New Orleans
NO 17 ATL 13 Atlanta Wins
Your Pick:

This is the 8-2 Saints against the 2-8 Falcons and everything favours the Saints, who are coming off two completely different types of victories in the last two weeks. They dominated the Cowboys when they were decimated by injuries and then earned a 3-point controversial win over the 49ers that was really determined by a key roughing the quarterback penalty. The Falcons are a perfect example of a team that depended on two or three players on offence and can't recover when they're injured. The Saints must continue to win because they play the Seahawks on December 2 and if they win, they would be tied at 10-2. New Orleans must first beat Atlanta and Seattle and if they can accomplish that, they would have home field for the NFC and that's a major reason to play well. You add the pressure of two games against Carolina and the Saints will not look past Atlanta on Thursday night. I don't like to give up so many points on the road but one team is thinking Super Bowl and the other is just trying to get their third win. Saints cover.

ClevelandCleveland (-1.0)
Schultz Picks: Pittsburgh

World Picks: 75.3% - Pittsburgh
PIT 27 CLE 11 Pittsburgh Wins
Your Pick:

Surprising line when you consider the Browns lost big to the Bengals and the Steelers won big over Detroit. Maybe it is due to the fact that Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Baltimore are even at 4-6. There has been a lot of talk about the age of the Steeler defence and that a Roethlisberger trade would "kick-start" a new influx of youth. Not sure as to the reality of the latter as I look at Roethlisberger as a foundation piece, not a mechanism of change. After the Patriots put 55 on the Steeler defence, Pittsburgh has responded with two solid wins at home over Buffalo and Detroit. I think they can create a third by three right in FirstEnergy Stadium, home of the Browns. Pittsburgh covers.

DetroitDetroit (-9.5)
Schultz Picks: Tampa Bay

World Picks: 53.0% - Tampa Bay
TB 24 DET 21 Tampa Bay Wins
Your Pick:

Darrelle Revis on Calvin Johnson. This is why Revis was given so much money to compete against what I think is the best receiver in football. The Bucs have won two in a row and if, in this last third of the season, they continue to win, I think it will save Greg Schiano's job. For Detroit, they come back to Ford Field and its fast track. At 6-4, they are in position to win the NFC North with a winnable schedule left. This is a tough one because Tampa Bay's last two wins were at home against Miami and Atlanta, both hurting teams. But the spread is too much for me. Bucs on points.

Green BayGreen Bay (-4.5)
Schultz Picks: Green Bay

World Picks: 66.4% - Green Bay
MIN 26 GB 26 Minnesota Wins
Your Pick:

Two very good running backs in this game. Eddie Lacy is just starting his career and Adrian Peterson is in the prime of his career. With average quarterback play from both teams, the game will come down to who controls the game with their running backs and I think that will be Green Bay. Distressing for the Vikings was allowing 41 points to Seattle. I know that Seattle is a 10-1 team but that is an excellent film for the Packers to study. The NFC North is a wide open division with Green Bay only one game behind both Detroit and Chicago. I like Mike McCarthy to do the unusual and get the Packers their sixth win of the year. Packers cover.

Kansas CityKansas City (-5.0)
Schultz Picks: San Diego

World Picks: 74.8% - Kansas City
SD 41 KC 38 San Diego Wins
Your Pick:

Trap game for the Chiefs. Coming of a tough loss to Denver and playing the Broncos again next week, the Chiefs play a good San Diego team, even though they are 4-6. As the visiting team, the Chargers want to keep it close and win it in the fourth quarter. By effort and design, the Chiefs look at every game in the same way; keep it close and win it in the fourth. The Chargers have to control Jamaal Charles but the Chiefs have their own challenge in Danny Woodhead. The Chiefs are the better team but the Chargers may be catching them at the right time. Chargers on points.

@
Schultz Picks: St. Louis

World Picks: 60.6% - Chicago
CHI 21 STL 42 St. Louis Wins
Your Pick:

The Bears either win by three or lose by three. The Rams are coming off the bye week and the Bears are coming off two tough games against Baltimore and Detroit, both at home. Logic says the Bears easy as they are 6-4 and fighting for a division lead and St. Louis is 4-6 and chasing everyone in their division. But Rams head coach Jeff Fisher is working on the big picture day by day and going with a risky pick for sure on Sunday. Take St. Louis.

CarolinaCarolina (-4.5)

Schultz Picks: Carolina

World Picks: 87.2% - Carolina
CAR 20 MIA 16 Miami Wins
Your Pick:

Carolina should be a confident team after the two tough wins over the 49ers and New England. The Dolphins seem to win or lose by close scores (Cincinnati - win, Tampa Bay - loss and San Diego - win). But the Panthers have allowed only 138 points this year and that is the lowest number in the league this season. If they can hold the 49ers to nine points and New England to 17, I can't see the Dolphins moving the ball effectively or consistently. I can see Miami being one-dimensional by the second quarter and the Panthers getting win number eight. Panthers by 7.

BaltimoreBaltimore (-4.0)
Schultz Picks: Baltimore

World Picks: 78.0% - Baltimore
NYJ 3 BAL 19 Baltimore Wins
Your Pick:

The Jets have hit a pattern of win one, lose one all season and according to that pattern, this should be a win. But I wonder if Geno Smith has hit a bit of a rookie wall in terms of energy. He has flat-lined a bit as a quarterback and the Ravens could be the direct beneficiaries this week. The Jets are a physical team but are playing their equal on the road. Joe Flacco has not had a great year but the Ravens have a definite advantage at quarterback. Ed Reed goes home as does Rex Ryan to an extent but I say the pattern is broken and the Ravens beat the Jets by more than four. Ravens cover.

HoustonHouston (-10.0)
Schultz Picks: Jacksonville

World Picks: 70.2% - Jacksonville
JAC 13 HOU 6 Jacksonville Wins
Your Pick:

Both teams have had very difficult seasons. For Jacksonville, it was to be expected as no one thought that new head coach Gus Bradley would turn the franchise around in one year. With Houston, the expectations were completely different. The four interceptions Matt Schaub threw in the first third of the season led to four losses and dictated the year. I didn't like Case Keenum being benched against the Raiders last week and the Raiders beat Houston with a third-team quarterback making his first start. This one is divisional and I like the points. Jacksonville on points.

ArizonaArizona (-1.0)
Schultz Picks: Indianapolis

World Picks: 63.3% - Indianapolis
IND 11 ARI 40 Arizona Wins
Your Pick:

This will be one of the better defences that Andrew Luck has faced this season with the Arizona Cardinals. And he has faced some good ones earlier in the year in the 49ers in Week 4 and Seattle in Week 6 - and they won both of those games. The trade with Cleveland for Trent Richardson has yet to live up to expectations but that's okay, Donald Brown this year is a better running back right now as his greatest asset is natural explosiveness to and through the opportunity provided. With Luck you know what you get, he is the best fourth quarterback in football. With Carson Palmer you just don't know. With extra time in between games - having played last Thursday - I like the Colts to expand their lead in the AFC South. Colts.

Schultz Picks: Oakland

World Picks: 63.9% - Oakland
TEN 23 OAK 19 Tennessee Wins
Your Pick:

Both teams are 4-6 and both need to win the next six to make it a 10-win season. Unlikely for both. Definite advantage for Tennessee to have 10 days off between games at this point of the season and confidence builder over the last two games as Oakland played the Giants tough in a loss and beat Houston, both on the road. This truly is a pick 'em game and I pick the Raiders playing at home on a Sebastian Janikowski 50-yard field goal. Go with the Raiders.

NY GiantsNY Giants (-2.5)
Schultz Picks: Dallas

World Picks: 56.9% - NY Giants
DAL 24 NYG 21 Dallas Wins
Your Pick:

For the Dallas Cowboys this is it. Six games to go to win the NFC East. They have as good a chance as anyone in their division but must dramatically improve defensively. Losing Sean Lee was huge as he is not only their top linebacker but also the team leader in demeanour and performance. For the Giants with recent wins over Green Bay, Oakland, Philadelphia and Minnesota they have gone from 0-6 to 4-6 fast. But Dallas has the inside edge in the division as they are 3-0, Philadelphia is 3-2, the Giants 1-2 and Washington 0-3. This is it for Dallas, coming off the bye. Cowboys by 3. Dallas.

DenverDenver (-2.5)

Schultz Picks: Denver

World Picks: 74.5% - Denver
DEN 31 NE 34 New England Wins
Your Pick:

Overall I like the Broncos to beat New England because of the Denver offence. The 398 points scored so far is by far the most in the NFL. Peyton Manning and his receivers are more polished and reliable than New England at this point of the season. Yes the addition of Rob Gronkowski is a major assist for Brady and New England. I know neither team is going to dominate and I can only see the Patriots by 3 or the Broncos by 3. Could the Patriots lose two in a row? I say yes. Denver covers 2.5. Broncos.

San FranciscoSan Francisco (-5.0)
@
Schultz Picks: San Francisco

World Picks: 85.9% - San Francisco
SF 27 WSH 6 San Francisco Wins
Your Pick:

Nobody has allowed more points that the Washington Redskins. Through the first 10 games the total is 311, that's a little over 30 a game. And on the extreme opposite the 49ers have allowed only 179 points - about 17 per game. Only Seattle and Carolina have allowed less and Seattle is by one point. At 6-4 this is it for the 49ers. Divisional rival Arizona has the same one loss and it is the 49ers who are competing for a wild card opportunity with Carolina, Chicago and Dallas. The 49ers are not going to catch the Seahawks for the division, since they have to do it the hard way. 49ers cover 5.
