New EnglandNew England (-12.5)
Schultz Picks: NY Jets

World Picks: 52.8% - NY Jets
NYJ 10 NE 13 NY Jets Wins
Your Pick:

Okay, what gives here? The Jets played a tough Tampa Bay team and won. Yes, it was due to penalty enhancement but they went toe-to-toe all game. For New England they barely beat Buffalo and both Danny Amendola and Shane Vereen will not play. The Jets will have confidence to play man-to-man and try to pressure with everyone else. Sure, Geno Smith will play his first road game but he did show against the Bucs that the game was not too big for him. Smith has a nice level of mobility about him, which is important. New England should win as Bill Belichick is 14-4 against rookie quarterbacks and Tom Brady did create his 37th game-winning drive to beat the Bills. But the points are too much for me. Jets on points.

AtlantaAtlanta (-7.0)
Schultz Picks: St. Louis

World Picks: 69.4% - Atlanta
STL 24 ATL 31 Tie
Your Pick:

St. Louis has a very good pass rush, a solid quarterback and a strong special returner in Tavon Austin. Atlanta has an explosive offence and an improved defence and are playing at home for a second straight week. The key may be the kicking game for St. Louis, Greg Zuerlein is as good as any and maybe the best from 50 yards plus second only to Sebastian Janikowski. Rams on points.

Schultz Picks: Buffalo

World Picks: 59.8% - Buffalo
CAR 23 BUF 24 Buffalo Wins
Your Pick:

Hmmmm, home underdog. Yes, Carolina played Seattle tough but Seattle does not travel well. Yes, the Bills played New England well but New England has lost all of their productive receivers. EJ Manuel has looked good but the Bills' defence under new co-ordinator Mike Pettine may be the story as the season moves on. Bills.

ChicagoChicago (-6.5)
Schultz Picks: Chicago

World Picks: 73.5% - Chicago
MIN 30 CHI 31 Minnesota Wins
Your Pick:

Second home game for Chicago, second road game for the Vikings. At one point Cincinnati was up 21-10 last week but Jay Cutler put together two 80-yard drives against a good Bengal defence. Adrian Peterson had one big run to start the game, then Detroit shut him down. The Bears can too. Bears cover.

Green BayGreen Bay (-7.0)
Schultz Picks: Green Bay

World Picks: 79.8% - Green Bay
WSH 20 GB 38 Green Bay Wins
Your Pick:

Bounce back game for the Packers. There should be a lot of points. Washington had trouble slowing down the speed of the Eagles last week and will have trouble slowing down the speed of the Packers this week. Have to admit, I thought Robert Griffin III would be ready but he was not. He was better in the second half but the Eagles also had a 33-7 lead at one point. Lost in the excellence of Colin Kaepernick is the fact that Green Bay held the 49ers to 90 yards on 34 carries and San Francisco has one of the best offensive lines in the league. Bounce back game, Packers. Green Bay covers 7.

IndianapolisIndianapolis (-3.0)
Schultz Picks: Miami

World Picks: 78.8% - Indianapolis
MIA 24 IND 20 Miami Wins
Your Pick:

The Colts are the better team but the Dolphins have a dominant defence. The running game for Miami is a concern as no back on the roster has taken it over and become a true No. 1. Mike Wallace is due for a big game, as he only caught one pass for 15 yards last week. I was surprised that Indy struggled against a troubled Raider team, and they may not be so fortunate against Miami. Dolphins.

Kansas CityKansas City (-3.0)
Schultz Picks: Kansas City

World Picks: 54.8% - Kansas City
DAL 16 KC 17 Dallas Wins
Your Pick:

Chiefs have their home opener while the Cowboys are on the road. Tough to assess the Chiefs: are they that good or is Jacksonville in complete rebuild mentality? What gives me confidence with the Chiefs is they forced eight three-and-outs against the Jaguars. What concerns me with the Cowboys is that they allowed five plays of 20 yards or more against the Giants. Alex Smith had a no-turnover game again, his greatest asset as a quarterback. Chiefs.

PhiladelphiaPhiladelphia (-7.5)
Schultz Picks: Philadelphia

World Picks: 71.8% - Philadelphia
SD 33 PHI 30 San Diego Wins
Your Pick:

Must admit I was wrong in every way. I thought it would take half a season for Chip Kelly to see the execution level he saw Monday night. That was exceptional and entertaining football and I hope every NFL team tries to copy. With a short week for both teams it effects San Diego more than the Eagles with the question of how to practice to prevent this type of offence. Jason Peters and Lane Johnson have a chance to be the best tackle duo in football. Eagles cover.

BaltimoreBaltimore (-6.5)
Schultz Picks: Baltimore

World Picks: 83.7% - Baltimore
CLE 6 BAL 14 Baltimore Wins
Your Pick:

Divisional game, yes, but the Ravens are coming off being destroyed by Denver with 10 days in between. All four teams in the AFC North lost last week so no one is playing from a win-loss deficit. The Ravens have won 10 in a row against Cleveland and 10 of the last 12 overall. If Miami can hold the Browns to 10 points, so can the Ravens at home. Baltimore covers.

HoustonHouston (-8.5)
Schultz Picks: Tennessee

World Picks: 67.7% - Houston
TEN 24 HOU 30 Tennessee Wins
Your Pick:

A lot of points for a divisional game. Tough to get a clear read on Tennessee as Pittsburgh was overwhelmed last week due to their own inadequacy as much as for the Titans' ability. But this is for sure: the Titan defence held Pittsburgh to 195 total yards which takes four quarters of football excellence. With an improved offensive line and Chris Johnson being similar in ability to Arian Foster I see a challenge for Houston in its home opener. Tennessee on points.

DetroitDetroit (-1.0)

Schultz Picks: Arizona

World Picks: 67.6% - Detroit
DET 21 ARI 25 Arizona Wins
Your Pick:

Patrick Peterson against Calvin Johnson. That may be the reason either team wins or loses as whomever gets the better of the other means a lot in this one. Matthew Stafford is the better quarterback and Carson Palmer was the best quarterback available. But the Cardinal defence will be the strength and as talented as Detroit is I like it to be a field goal win for Arizona. Cardinals.

New OrleansNew Orleans (-3.0)

Schultz Picks: New Orleans

World Picks: 89.8% - New Orleans
NO 16 TB 14 Tampa Bay Wins
Your Pick:

Can't see Josh Freeman keeping pace with Drew Brees. Home opener for the Bucs and that is an advantage but the Saints' defence may be better that anticipated, holding Atlanta to 17 points. This is the game where the Bucs need Darrelle Revis and Dashon Goldson to come up with game changing plays. But it may not matter as Tampa Bay had only 12 first downs against the Jets. Saints cover 3.

OaklandOakland (-6.0)
Schultz Picks: Oakland

World Picks: 81.5% - Oakland
JAC 9 OAK 19 Oakland Wins
Your Pick:

It has been a long, long, long time since the Raiders have been favoured by 6 points. Perhaps it is because the Jacksonville Jaguars have farther to go to improve than any other NFL team. Terrelle Pryor in his first NFL start passed for 217 yards and ran for another 112. It's more likely he duplicates that type of game again than Chad Henne fixes all in Jacksonville. Raiders cover 6.

DenverDenver (-4.5)
@
Schultz Picks: Denver

World Picks: 84.4% - Denver
DEN 41 NYG 23 Denver Wins
Your Pick:

I am never going to bet against Peyton Manning again. His offence is too explosive, receivers too well educated, offensive line too good and they have just enough running game to keep it all balanced. For New York, Brandon Jacobs is back. Good move but not a game breaking running back. There should be lots of points as Eli Manning can create big plays just like his brother, but the older brother has a better overall team. Broncos cover.

8:30 PM Sunday, September 15, 2013

@
SeattleSeattle (-3.0)
Schultz Picks: Seattle

World Picks: 55.1% - San Francisco
SF 3 SEA 29 Seattle Wins
Your Pick:

Two reasons I like Seattle to cover. First, the Seahawks at home are excellent. Last year they won all eight games at home and many were by dominant scores. Second, the Seattle Seahawks are not in awe or subservient to San Francisco's present or previous success. The last time the 49ers played Seattle at Century Link Field, Seattle won by 29. No doubt, Colin Kaepernick is special and is being headhunted out of that respect. But Seattle on defence last year allowed fewer points than any NFL team. They allowed only seven to Carolina last week. Seattle.

@
CincinnatiCincinnati (-7.0)
Schultz Picks: Cincinnati

World Picks: 73.1% - Cincinnati
PIT 10 CIN 20 Cincinnati Wins
Your Pick:

Normally seven points in a divisional game is too many. But, the Steelers are in trouble. They have injuries and no running game, and only 32 yards against Tennessee means the Steeler offence has only one dimension. Cincinnati did lose in Chicago last week but at one point were up 21-10. Chicago has more perimeter talent than Pittsburgh. James Harrison, as a former Steeler, will want to make an impact all game long. If Tennessee can hold Pittsburgh to nine points, so can Cincinnati. Bengals.
