Week 8 Picks

CarolinaCarolina (-6.0)

Schultz Picks: Carolina

World Picks: 91.6% - Carolina
CAR 31 TB 13 Carolina Wins
Your Pick:

I can see the Panthers not only winning but dominating. Cam Newton is on top of his game completing 15 of 17 against St. Louis last week and the defence is ranked in the top 5. And they are playing a Bucs team that has reached the "Red Zone" a league-low nine times in six games. The Bucs have yet to win a game and the most points they have scored is 23 and that was last week. After watching Josh Freeman against the Giants I understand the move to Mike Glennon, and I think if Glennon is mentally tough enough he will develop into a good quarterback. But Ron Rivera has a good defence and a good defence usually has its way with a rookie quarterback. No Doug Martin is also a big advantage for Carolina. Six points are a lot on the road but the Panthers are improving, the Bucs are just surviving. Carolina covers the 6.

San FranciscoSan Francisco (-16.5)

Schultz Picks: San Francisco

World Picks: 74.5% - San Francisco
SF 42 JAC 10 San Francisco Wins
Your Pick:

San Diego went West Coast to East Coast and beat Jacksonville by 18. Now the 49ers go from the West Coast to London, England to play Jacksonville and it would not surprise me if the 49ers won by 18 as well. Personally I think these games in London are ridiculous. Consider the time changes the 49ers and Jaguars have to go through to play a game. With that said the San Francisco 49ers have scored over 30 points in each of their last three games, allowing a single game high of 20 over that time period as well. If San Francisco can block Paul Posluszny effectively this could be an easy win. Posluszny had 14 tackles last week against San Diego and may win the award at the end of the season for being a great player on a bad team. Interesting fact: the 49ers have outscored their opponent over the last four games in the second quarter 51-7. 16.5 points is a monster number but I can't see Jacksonville scoring points as they only put up 6 on San Diego at home last week. 49ers take care of business and cover the big number overseas.

DetroitDetroit (-3.0)
Schultz Picks: Dallas

World Picks: 52.8% - Dallas
DAL 30 DET 31 Dallas Wins
Your Pick:

The Cowboys seem to get stronger the more injuries suffered. Two great receivers in this game, Dez Bryant with his 13.5 yard-per-catch average and Calvin Johnson and his 14.9 yard-per-catch average. But, I don't see any cornerback similar to Brandon Flowers for Dallas on the Detroit roster. And Dallas has a second receiver in Terrance Williams that is a rising star. A good defensive line for Detroit against a much improved offensive line for Dallas. There should be a lot of points in this one but Dallas is my pick to move to 5-3. Cowboys.

Kansas CityKansas City (-7.0)
Schultz Picks: Kansas City

World Picks: 92.4% - Kansas City
CLE 17 KC 23 Cleveland Wins
Your Pick:

The highest point total allowed by KC this season is 17 so even if Cleveland scores 17 I can see KC scoring 27. The Chiefs have two good running backs, two good pass rushing defensive ends, two good cornerbacks and a quarterback in Alex Smith who is methodical more than anything spectacular. At running back Jamaal Charles is averaging 112 yards per game but will be challenged by a very good Browns defensive front seven. Yes, they only beat Case Keenum by 1 at home but Cleveland does not have Andre Johnson and Houston's supporting crew. Second road game for the Browns, second home game for the Chiefs. I'll take KC to win big over a Browns offence that only scored 17 in Green Bay last week. Chiefs.

New EnglandNew England (-7.0)
Schultz Picks: Miami

World Picks: 69.4% - New England
MIA 17 NE 27 New England Wins
Your Pick:

Third down was deadly for New England last week in the loss to the Jets. Brady was 1-for-12 and yet still scored 27 points. Then the other factor is the injuries - Vince Wilfork, Jerod Mayo and maybe Aqib Talib again this week. Miami has offensive line issues that may only be resolved through free agency or the draft next year. Bryant McKinnie was picked up to help and may make a difference. Both teams are coming off losses so urgency is high - especially for the Dolphins who have lost to New Orleans, Baltimore and Buffalo in consecutive weeks. It is in the division and with Rob Gronkowski the Patriots are better, but this is it for Miami. A fourth consecutive loss would be devastating with nine games to go. New England wins, but Miami keeps it close. Dolphins on points.

New OrleansNew Orleans (-12.5)
Schultz Picks: New Orleans

World Picks: 72.6% - New Orleans
BUF 17 NO 35 New Orleans Wins
Your Pick:

The Saints are coming off the Bye week and are always efficient when given time to regroup and evaluate. The Bills are coming off two tough games, an overtime loss to the Bengals and a two-point road win in Miami. I do not anticipate the Saints self-destructing in any form. Only seven turnovers in six games is pretty good. I do anticipate the Saints scoring 30 or more and holding the Bills to 17 or less. The Bills can run the ball extremely well and Rob Ryan knows that. But this is the best offence the Bills have played all season and I don't know if three-game starter Thad Lewis can keep pace. Coming off the bye, Saints roll. New Orleans covers 12.5.

PhiladelphiaPhiladelphia (-6.0)
Schultz Picks: Philadelphia

World Picks: 54.2% - Philadelphia
NYG 15 PHI 7 NY Giants Wins
Your Pick:

Michael Vick should be back for the Eagles. With Nick Foles being out with a concussion and the Giants coming off a win, Eagles roll. I like the Eagles.

PittsburghPittsburgh (-3.0)

Schultz Picks: Pittsburgh

World Picks: 73.2% - Pittsburgh
PIT 18 OAK 21 Oakland Wins
Your Pick:

I think I can trust the Steelers. If you watched Troy Polamalu vs the Ravens he was everywhere. The Pittsburgh Steelers have to dominate takeaway and giveaway if they are to be a playoff team. Right now, they are 29th in a 32-team league, but that will change against the Raiders coming off the bye. Le'Veon Bell will be a star come Sunday afternoon west coast time. At 2-4, the Raiders are in their normal win/loss scenario. Not the Steelers, who are still a playoff team in their minds. Steelers cover.

CincinnatiCincinnati (-6.5)
Schultz Picks: Cincinnati

World Picks: 63.1% - Cincinnati
NYJ 9 CIN 49 Cincinnati Wins
Your Pick:

The Cincinnati Bengals have won two in a row by close scores -- 27-24 over the Bills and 27-24 over the Lions; both on the road. The Jets are coming off the "upset special" with the Patriots. The Jets held the Patriots to 1-for-12 on 3rd down, which is very unique. In the battle of two good defenses, I will take the "Mike Zimmer" defense at home. Two straight 300-yard performances at home with Andy Dalton gives me confidence to say that the Bengals cover.

DenverDenver (-13.0)
Schultz Picks: Washington

World Picks: 64.6% - Denver
WSH 21 DEN 45 Denver Wins
Your Pick:

Bounce back game by the Broncos. 13 points is a lot for a team that was exposed in the secondary. I never thought that any team would cover Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker and Wes Welker the way the Colts did. Good video to watch and learn. RG3 ran for 88 yards against Chicago. Redskins on points.

ArizonaArizona (-2.5)
Schultz Picks: Arizona

World Picks: 65.0% - Atlanta
ATL 13 ARI 27 Arizona Wins
Your Pick:

Good defensive team vs a good offensive team but the offensive team does not have its best players. Many say that Carson Palmer is not the quarterback he used to be, but Palmer does not have the pass protection he used to have. The Falcons don't have the pass rush they use to have either. Patrick Peterson on any receiver is an Arizona gift. Cardinals win.

Green BayGreen Bay (-7.5)

Schultz Picks: Green Bay

World Picks: 92.6% - Green Bay
GB 44 MIN 31 Green Bay Wins
Your Pick:

Jermichael Finley is not going to play. Not sure about Josh Freeman - too many overthrown passes for me. Jon Gruden was right; play Christian Ponder until Freeman is ready. I will take Aaron Rodgers and his limited receivers based on health over anyone that the Vikings have. Leslie Frazier is looking for a "game-changing" quarterback, the Packers have one. The only win the Vikings have was over the Steelers in London, England. Even though they are at home, I still like Jordy Nelson to make the game-changing play. Packers cover.

SeattleSeattle (-10.5)

Schultz Picks: Seattle

World Picks: 87.0% - Seattle
SEA 14 STL 9 St. Louis Wins
Your Pick:

Ok, it is difficult not to like the Seahawks. They played on a Thursday while St Louis lost to Carolina last Sunday. Hmmm, logic says Seattle roles. New quarterback in Kellen Clemens to run the St Louis offense against maybe the well-rested, hyped up Seahawk defense? No way! I think the best running back in all of football is Marshawn Lynch. Nobody has a second effort quite like him. It may be a road game but I like Seattle to cover. Seattle.
