SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The American Hockey League suspended Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Jesse Boulerice 10 games for making contact with referee Francis Charron during a game this week.

Boulerice was given a misconduct for abuse of officials in the third period of Wednesday's 3-2 shootout win over Charlotte.

Upset over a non-call after the stick was slashed out of his hands, Boulerice argued vehemently with Charron and later collided with him during play.

The AHL, announcing the decision Friday, said "Boulerice was determined to have deliberately applied physical force to an official without intent to injure." That carries a 10-game suspension.

Boulerice will be eligible to return to the Penguins lineup on Jan. 28.
