ROCHESTER -- Centre Cody McCormick scored his first two goals of the season 17 seconds apart in the first period to get the Rochester Americans started on a 5-0 victory over the Abbotsford Heat in AHL play Friday.
Brayden McNabb made it 3-0 late in the second period, and Nick Tarnasky and Luke Adam completed the scoring in the third.
David Leggio made 44 shots for the shutout.
The Americans (30-22-3) have won three in a row, to move three points back of first place Toronto in the North Division.
Leland Irving allowed two goals on four shots for the Heat (27-25-8), and was replaced by Danny Taylor, who finished with 19 saves.
The loss was Abbotsford's third in a row
Rochester scored on 3 of 8 power plays, while Abbotsford was 0 for 5.
