ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Craig Cunningham scored a short-handed goal as the Providence Bruins edged the St. John's IceCaps 3-2 in American Hockey League action Tuesday.

Matt Lindblad and Anthony Camara also scored for the Bruins (24-18-6), while Malcolm Subban stopped 27 shots.

Adam Lowry and Ben Chiarot replied for the IceCaps (26-17-3).

The Bruins opened the scoring 27 seconds into the second period when Nick Johnson passed out front and Lindblad scored a low one-time slapshot.

The IceCaps equalized when Jerome Samson fired a point shot, which was tipped home by Lowry with lots of traffic in front of the net 4:33 into the second period on the power play.

Cunningham scored with a high blocker backhand on a shorthanded breakaway at the 11:10 mark of the third period.

The Bruins took a two-goal lead when Camara tapped the puck into a practically-empty net, as IceCaps goalie Michael Hutchinson was caught out of position 15:07 into the third.

Chiarot pulled the IceCaps within one off a wrist shot with 3:17 left in regulation.

Hutchinson finished with 28 saves for the IceCaps.
