The Ottawa Senators confirmed on Thursday that Daniel Alfredsson will be at the Canadian Tire Centre on December 4 to make an announcement. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger said earlier in the week that Alfredsson is set to retire from professional hockey.

The team also said that Alfredsson will be a part of a special pre-game ceremony before Thursday's home game against the New York Islanders.

The long-time Senators captain also tweeted out that he will be in Ottawa with his family on December 4.

Alfredsson, 41, appeared in 1,178 career NHL games with the Senators and Detroit Red Wings, scoring 426 goals and 682 assists for 1,108 total points. The Swedish forward had been attempting a comeback and was trying to rehabilitate disc problems in his back.
