The Montreal Alouettes signed veteran centre Dominic Picard to a one-year contract Tuesday.

The 10-year national veteran spent last year with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, starting 14 games at centre. Picard has also played with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Toronto Argonauts.

"We welcome Dominic home and to the Montreal Alouettes. His availability and passion to play in Montreal come at a time of need," Alouettes general manager and head coach Jim Popp said in a team release. "With the injury to Luc Brodeur-Jourdain, we obviously had some concern with depth at the centre position. Picard's acquisition brings veteran leadership and experience to our talented offensive line."

Picard helped the Roughriders win the Grey Cup in 2013 and has thrice been voted Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman by his team, the Argos in 2011 and the Roughriders in 2012 and 2014.
