ANAHEIM, Calif. — Shortstop Andrelton Simmons has returned to the Los Angeles Angels' lineup after a 34-game injury absence.

The Angels activated Simmons from the disabled list Wednesday ahead of their homestand finale against Minnesota.

Simmons tore a ligament in his left thumb while fielding in a home game against Tampa Bay on May 8. He was batting just .219 with eight RBIs in his first 32 games for the Angels, who acquired him from Atlanta in the off-season.

Gregorio Petit largely filled in for Simmons at shortstop in recent weeks for the Angels, who went 15-19 while Simmons was out.

Los Angeles designated infielder Brendan Ryan for assignment to make room for Simmons.
