TORONTO — Centre Joel Anthony, guard Brady Heslip and forward Andrew Nicholson headline the Canadian senior men's national team roster for the upcoming FIBA AmeriCup in Argentina.

Anthony, a free agent from Montreal, played for the San Antonio Spurs last season. Heslip, from Oakville, Ont., plays for Raptors 905 of the NBA G-League while Nicholson most recently played for the Brooklyn Nets and is now with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Canada will open play Sunday against the U.S. Virgin Islands in Bahia Blanca. The tournament, which features 12 teams from the Americas, continues through Sept. 3.

"The FIBA AmeriCup 2017 will be a great first step for our program towards our ultimate goal of qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games," head coach Jay Triano said Tuesday in a release. "While we are focused on winning every time we step out on the court, the AmeriCup provides our coaching staff with a valuable opportunity to evaluate our talent pool prior to the start of the qualification process in November."

The rest of the roster includes guards Olivier Hanlan of Gatineau, Que., Jermaine Anderson, Junior Cadougan, Ammanuel Diressa and Xavier Rathan-Mayes — all from Toronto — along with forwards Richard Amardi of Toronto, Murphy Burnatowski of Kitchener, Ont., Grandy Glaze of Toronto and Dyshawn Pierre of Whitby, Ont.

Roy Rana will serve as head coach at the tournament. The Canadian team is currently ranked eighth in the Americas and 24th in the world.
