IndyCar series points leader Dario Franchitti will be looking for a clean sweep through Canada this weekend at the Rexall Edmonton Indy.
It's a race that you can catch live on TSN2 starting at 5pm et/2pm pt. The race is also available on TSN2HD.
Coming off a victory on the streets of Toronto, the Scotsman will look to make it two straight as 23 cars hit the Edmonton City Centre Airport circuit.
Franchitti's work is cut out for him in a star-studded field as some of the World's top open-wheel racers will try to nudge their way into the Championship picture.
One of the biggest challengers for Franchitti could be his Target Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon. Franchitti leads the defending series points champion by just two points in the Championship race. Both Dixon and Franchitti sit on three wins apiece this season but Dixon holds the advantage of winning here last year.
Team Penske will also be well represented as Australia's Ryan Briscoe, who sits third in the standings, will look to build on his success earlier in the year with a win in St. Petersburg. He will be teamed with crowd favourite Helio Castroneves. After a tumultuous year in which he was acquitted for tax evasion, "Spiderman" is back in top form this season, including a victory at the Indy 500 and another at the Texas Motor Speedway.
A great deal of the focus will once again be on Andretti Green Racing's Danica Patrick as she continues to search for her first victory of the season after scoring the inaugural win of her career last year in Japan. A first-place finish in Edmonton would vault her right into the thick of the Points championship standings. The only female driver in the field sits fifth, 81 points behind the leader.
Racing fans will have some Canadian content to cheer for as both Paul Tracy and Alex Tagliani will be in the field. This will be Tagliani's first time racing in Edmonton after leading for 21 laps in Toronto before picking up a ninth place finish for Conquest racing. It's something that the Lachenaie, Quebec native believes he can build on heading out West.
"We leave Toronto with a great feeling in our hearts knowing we had everything to beat the best of the best," Tagliani told IndyCar.com. "It's good momentum as we head to Edmonton with the knife between our teeth, anxious to begin the weekend the way we performed in Toronto, with a great and fast car to make it all happen."
Meanwhille this will only be only the sixth race of the season for the "Thrill from West Hill" who is racing part-time for KV Racing Technology. A fan favourite for his aggressive style, Tracy crashed out on Lap 66 in Toronto following a dust-up with Castroneves. He will be looking for his first IndyCar racing title since the series merger.
A pair of young guns will also be looking to make their mark this weekend as Luczo Dragon racing's Raphael Matos leads Newman/Haas Lanigan's Robert Doombos by a mere seven points in the Rookie points standings. Either man would put an exclamation point on their inaugural season's in the IndyCar series by picking up their first career wins in Edmonton.
