FORT WORTH, Texas - Rookie driver Simona de Silvestro burned her right hand in a fiery accident in the IndyCar Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.

The No. 78 car driven by de Silvestro looked like a fireball Saturday night as it slid off the backstretch and came to rest between Turns 3 and 4.

"It was crazy. The fire was getting worse and worse," said de Silvestro, who emerged from the infield care centre with her right hand bandaged. "It just wouldn't go away."

It appeared that de Silvestro was struggling to get out of the car before an emergency official got there and basically had to yank her out of the cockpit. Switzerland's de Silvestro then walked to the inside wall and slumped down into a sitting position on the track.

"My hand is a little bit burned. I couldn't get out quickly enough," she said, managing to smile. "I feel OK and will be ready to go in the next race."
