INDIANAPOLIS -- Ed Carpenter shouted at James Hinchcliffe on the track, then chided him for making an "amateur move" on national television following a late crash in Sunday's Indianapolis 500.

Hinchcliffe tried to pass Carpenter on the inside of the first turn on a restart with 25 laps left to go. The move sent both cars, which were second and fourth, into the wall and knocked both out of the race.

Carpenter, the two-time pole-winner and hometown favourite, climbed out of the cockpit and yelled at the Canadian driver before both were taken to the infield medical centre. They were quickly released.

Carpenter called it an "amateur move," then angrily suggested Hinchcliffe was spared his wrath only because had a concussion earlier this month.
