The Colorado Avalanche announced Wednesday that they have signed first-round pick Tyson Jost to a three-year entry-level contract.

Jost, who just completed his first season at the University of North Dakota, will join the Avalanche for the remainder of their season.

"Tyson is an all-around player. He competes, plays the game hard and is reliable at both ends of the ice,” Avalanche GM Joe Sakic said in a team release. “He just finished a strong year at North Dakota and we're looking forward to seeing him in an Avalanche sweater."

Selected 10th overall in last year’s draft, Jost finished with 16 goals and 35 points in 33 games for North Dakota in what will be his only year playing in the NCAA.

The Kelowna product was also part of Canada’s silver medal-winning World Junior team this season.
