David Backes has signed a five-year, $30 million contract with the Boston Bruins.

The 32-year-old centre netted 21 goals and 24 assists for 45 points over 79 games with the St. Louis Blues in 2015-16, his 10th season with the organization.  Backes added 14 more points during the Blues’ playoff run to the Western Conference Final where they lost to the San Jose Sharks in six games.

Drafted by the Blues in the second round (62nd overall) in 2003, Backes played the final year of a five-year, $22.5 million contract this past season. 

The American has 206 goals and 254 assists for 460 points in 727 career games with the Blues. Backes has 27 points over 49 career postseason games as well.
