Living the dream: Sabre style

Ryan Vinz had the chance recently to live out his hockey dream. Vinz who is the director of hockey technology for HarborCenter, was working late when Joe Battista who is the vice president of hockey-related businesses for the Buffalo Sabres, asked Vinz if he had his goalie gear with him.

Luckily Vinz did and before he knew it his dream of suiting up for an NHL team became a reality.

It was about an hour before the game with the San Jose Sharks at First Niagara Center when the Sabres finalized a trade sending Ryan Miller and Steve Ott to St. Louis. The Rochester Americans were in Chicago and the Sabres, as per NHL rules, needed a second goaltender for the game. That's where Vinz comes in, he played for his varsity team in 2003 and he had some experience trying out of higher level clubs like the Golden Knights, he continued to play at a rec league level and kept his equipment close by in case he had a game. For a team in need, that was good enough.

The Sabres made a mini documentary about Vinz's experience and it's definitely worth a watch.
