One-on-one with Jordan Subban

Belleville Bulls defenceman Jordan Subban was the third Subban sibling to be drafted into the NHL after the Vancouver Canucks drafted him 115th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

His brother, Montreal defenceman P.K.Subban, has made quite the name for himself winning last years Norris Trophy. His other brother Malcolm was a first-round draft choice by the Boston Bruins and currently is a goalie with the Providence Bruins in the AHL.

Now it's Jordan's turn to make a name for himself, and we caught up with him recently:

For those who haven't seen you play, how would you describe your game?

I'd probably describe myself as an offensive defenceman. I like moving the puck up to my forwards quickly and being part of the rush, generating a lot of power play points but I'd like to think I'm a pretty sound defenceman as well.

Who are some of your favorite players right now?

Right now probably Patrick Kane. He's just a fun player to watch and he has great celebrations. I'm sure a lot of fans in Chicago and around the league love to watch him.

Who are some of your favorite former players?

Probably former Red Wings defensemen Brian Rafalski and Niklas Lidstrom. With Mr. Rafalski, he's kind of similar to me in the way that he played. He's a smaller guy who played in the NHL for a while and he won so I liked to watch him as much as I can.

Out of your brothers, who tends to mess with you the most?

Definitely P.K., he's a prankster. Malcolm is more a laid back quiet guy, but P.K tries to prank us as much as he can.

Who's moms favorite?

Malcolm [laughs], I don't think she has any favorites, but Malcolm definitely caused her the least grief growing up.

Do you ever get sick of talking about your brothers?

Uh no, not really, I love hearing about my brothers success and I'm just happy for them and when people ask me about it I'm happy to talk about it.

Is it cool to see them succeed at the pro level (PK in the NHL, Malcolm in the AHL)?

Yeah definitely, I think you look back to the preseason when they played against each other for half a game that was pretty exciting for my family and I. We enjoyed it.

What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

I taught myself how to play piano a little bit. What can you play on piano? I can play some soft songs [laughs] I can play Apologize by One Republic, lady's like that one I'm sure.

When you play NHL 14, which team do you pick?

Vancouver, no doubt. Have you ever played as yourself? Yes I have. What are your thoughts on your player rating? Not bad [laughs] I could be a little bit better I'm sure every player would agree. I boost some attributes, my shot and speed.

Have you seen this .gif of P.K? What do you think of it?

No I haven't seen that, that's hilarious, that's pretty funny. It looks pretty funny when he's hopping up and down dancing.

Out of the Subban brothers, who's the best at going BarDown?

Me. PK just tries to put it through the net, I try to pick corners and hit the bar. Malcolm's got a pretty good shot though, I wouldn't count him out.
