LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Chicago Bears have been awarded quarterback Connor Shaw off waivers from the Cleveland Browns.

A South Carolina product, Shaw signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and started the final game of his rookie season. He spent last season on injured reserve after having right thumb surgery.

Shaw figures to compete for a spot behind Jay Cutler and former Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer in Chicago. Bears offensive co-ordinator Dowell Loggains was Cleveland's quarterbacks coach when Shaw was a rookie.

The Bears announced the move on Friday.
