A pair of Brazilian MMA legends will meet in Rio de Janeiro at UFC 224.  The promotion has announced that former UFC title challenger Vitor Belfort will face former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida at the May 12th PPV which will take place at Jeunesse Arena.

Machida broke a three-fight losing streak in his last fight, earning a split decision victory over Eryk Anders in the main event of UFC Fight Night Belem.

Prior to that, he suffered setbacks to Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero and Derek Brunson.

Between the losses to Romero and Brunson, Machida served an 18-month suspension after admitting to using a banned substance.

Belfort earned a victory over Nate Marquardt in his last bout, which took place at UFC 212 in June of 2017.  His previous fight was a TKO loss to Kelvin Gastelum that was overturn into a no-contest after his opponent tested positive for marijuana.

The 40-year-old was expected to face Uriah Hall in January but the bout was cancelled after Hall suffered a medical emergency stemming from his weight-cut.
