Joe Biagini will make his first career major league start on Sunday as the Toronto Blue Jays square off against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Biagini has been with the Blue Jays for the last two seasons as a reliever and will take Mat Latos’ spot in the rotation.

The move comes on the heels of the Jays designating Latos for assignment earlier Friday. Latos last started on Tuesday, surrendering seven earned runs on 10 hits in four innings. He has struggled so far this season with a 6.60 ERA in 15 innings.

Biagini is used to starting, just not at the major league level. Biagini started 86 of his 89 minor league games. He was selected as a Rule 5 draft pick from the San Francisco Giants prior to the start of the 2016 season.

Biagini has a career big-league ERA of 3.13 in 86.1 innings.
