Weeks: Hearn gains great deal of confidence at British Open

David Hearn finished up his first Open Championship in style, rolling in a birdie putt on the final hole to finish the week at 3-under. As TSN Golf's Bob Weeks writes, it was a solid week for the Canadian golfer and one from which he'll take a great deal of confidence. ...more

MacArthur: Jays entering crucial period of Anthopoulos' tenure

With 12 days to go before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline and an injury-riddled team in freefall, general manager Alex Anthopoulos finds himself in an unenviable position: cash-strapped at a time when the American League East is ripe for the picking, struggling to balance a win now mentality while keeping an eye to the future, the need to preserve the top end of the club's prospect pool. TSN Radio 1050's Scott MacArthur has more. ...more

MacArthur: Bizarre roster move kicks off Jays' second half

Unless the Blue Jays are laying the groundwork to promote top pitching prospect Aaron Sanchez from Triple-A, Friday's roster move is at best pointless and at worst, a hindrance. As TSN Blue Jays reporter Scott MacArthur says, it's hard to see how the acquisition of left-hander Brad Mills off waivers from Oakland on Thursday, followed by the optioning to Buffalo of right-hander Chad Jenkins on Friday, makes the Blue Jays a better baseball team. ...more

Weeks: Hearn checks wardrobe after making Open cut

Only one Canadian will play the weekend at Royal Liverpool and he'll do so possibly wearing Bob Weeks' jacket. David Hearn started well and survived a bumpy patch in the middle of his round to finish at 1-under for the first 36 holes. But he didn't bring enough wardrobe for potentially cold weather. Weeks reports from Hoylake, England. ...more

Butler: With van Gaal unveiled, the swagger returns to United

With Thursday's official unveiling of Louis van Gaal as Manchester United boss and still fresh off of a world-record apparel deal with Adidas, it appears that the swagger has returned to the 20-time English champions following the most expensive "gap year" in the team's illustrious history. TSN's Noel Butler explains. ...more

Weeks: Hearn readies for first appearance at British Open

David Hearn is a little light on major championship experience, having played just three previous times in the big four tournaments. And as TSN's Bob Weeks writes, he's also quite green when it comes to links golf, as in he's never been on a next-to-the-sea course. ...more

Forde: On rules, flags, and the CFL game I now miss

It's the feeling of a former player watching the game he loves, and seeing something very different from what he remembers. As CFL on TSN analyst Duane Forde explains, the fast pace of the game and the thrill of the coach's chess match is being replaced by lengthy games full of penalty flags and instant replay reviews. ...more

Suitor: Digging deeper into last week's CFL penalties

Last week in the CFL the penalty flags were flying. In total between the four games played there were 110 penalties for 958 yards, which is the third-highest total in the last 20 years. As CFL analyst Glen Suitor explains, the teams and officials are learning a new culture in football where player safety is the focus. ...more
