Double Play: Which was more impressive, Halladay or Morris?

When Philadelphia Phillies ace Roy Halladay threw his 104th and final pitch to Brandon Phillips in Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night, he joined the record books with Don Larsen as the only player to throw a no-hitter in the playoffs.

Halladay's performance was truly a historic display, and it should be considered one of the best games ever thrown in the playoffs. But there's another game - one more recent than Larsen's 1956 outing - that could also be thrown into that category.

Here's a hint: it was also thrown by someone who was at one point a Toronto Blue Jay.

That game was pitched by Jack Morris back in 1991.  Morris, who was with the Minnesota Twins at the time, threw a 1-0 shutout against the Atlanta Braves. In that contest, he threw 10 innings of shutout ball, allowing seven hits while notching eight strikeouts and just two walks.

Just as important as those numbers is the fact that it just happened to be the seventh game of the World Series.

Those who feel that Morris' feat is more impressive might point to the fact that, while Morris did allow nine base runners to Halladay's one, he managed to keep the Braves off the board in the most meaningful game of the season, while Halladay's feat was done in the first game of the first round of the playoffs.

Those who believe that Halladay's was the more impactful game will point to fact that the Reds were the top offence in the National League in the regular season and that Doc held them to just four balls in play out of the infield all game. Also, there's no telling what he could do should his team advance deeper into the post-season and he be given the same chance that Morris had.

With that said, our question for you is: Which performance was more impressive, Halladay's or Morris'?  As always, it's Your! Call.

Round 1 continues with the Blue Jackets' Marian Gaborik taking on Magnus Paajarvi of the Oilers.
