If I were picking Team Canada, based on what I have seen here this week in Regina, it would look like this:
Hall - Henrique - Nemisz
McMillan - Kadri - Eberle
Della Rovere - Cormier - Caron
Bourque - Schenn - Kozun
Adam
That would leave Eakin, LeBlanc and Cornet as odd men out up front. I don't feel good about leaving Eakin's goals on the table but I am can't eliminate anyone else.
On defence:
Scandella - Pietrangelo
Cowen - Hamonic
Ellis -Teubert
I honestly can't say with any confidence who my seventh defenceman is. I thought they all struggled mightily tonight. I suppose if I had to pick just one it would probably be Dylan Olsen, but he along with Calvin De Haan, Shawn Lalonde and Tyler Cuma weren't sharp in the final game. Cuma may have been the best of the four in this last game. It would be something if he made it after being here only as an injury replacement.
In goal:
Allen
Hackett
I could just as easily put Jones or Roy in as the backup instead of Hackett. But Allen is the No. 1. To be honest, there wasn't a lot to differentiate the other three.
I would let my goalie coach make the final call -- if I had a goalie coach.
This is a really tough exercise and I feel for these kids. A lot of them have played a lot of hockey and covered a lot of miles in recent days and weeks. A lot of them look worn down, physically and mentally, at this point.
I am sure those who make it will be eager to begin the team building phase and catch their breath, if only for a day or two.
