With the announcement that Brent Sutter has stepped down as head coach of the New Jersey Devils, there is automatically going to be the leap to connect him to his brother Darryl, who runs the Calgary Flames, a team that might be looking for a coach.
I'm told that the brothers have had no dialogue whatsoever other than family specific matters.
Brent Sutter made the decision to leave the National Hockey League because of his family. He wanted to be closer to them, and he's now back in Alberta.
The closeness of the Sutter family is legendary, but Brent also wants to pay closer attention to the struggling Red Deer Rebels, the Western Hockey League team that he owns.
I don't see Sutter returning to the NHL this year. I think he'll get his affairs together both on the family front and the WHL front.
A year from now, who knows.
