At the NHL's GM meetings in Florida, Rick Curran who represents Montreal Canadiens' forward Tomas Plekanec sat down with Habs' general manager Pierre Gauthier and I'm sure they talked about Plekanec's future with the club.
The two sides have mutually agreed that in the best interest of the hockey team and the player that they should table contract talks and worry about it at the end of the season.
There is also another reason for the Canadiens to wait until the season is over. Keep in mind that Plekanec is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent.
Do I think he is going to unrestricted free agency? No, I believe that there will be a deal made with the Canadiens.
However, Montreal doesn't know what the cap will be for next season, so how can they make space to sign Tomas Plekanec until they know what the number is? That is why it was tabled.
