Each week, The Reporters put their thumbs out to the good and the bad in the world of sports. This week, they discuss the success of the Miami Heat, Otawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk, Nike and Tiger Woods as well as the Bills' signing of Kevin Kolb.

Bruce Arthur, National Post: My thumb is up to the Miami Heat, winners of one straight last time I checked, but as you might have heard, they won 27 in a row recently, six short of the Los Angeles Lakers' record for consecutive wins in a season. They won a third of the season all together and they did it more playing beautiful basketball, unselfish basketball with LeBron James as the fulcrum. Not for nothing, I asked someone who covered Michael Jordan during his prime years in Chicago, who's better? He didn't hesitate and said LeBron.

Steve Simmons, Sun Media: My thumb is up to Eugene Melnyk, owner of the Ottawa Senators, who has brought something new to NHL entertainment: comedy. He is now the funniest man in all of hockey. By ordering his forensic report, so to speak, on the Matt Cooke-Erik Karlsson assault, he's either a comedian or he's a punchline.

Michael Farber, Sports Illustrated: My thumb is down to Nike, which this week, celebrating Tiger Woods' ascension to the #1 spot in golf said winning takes care of everything. Well, it doesn't take care of shattered relationships, it doesn't take care of shattered reputations and it really doesn't take care of everybody, including former Nike client Lance Armstrong, who won seven Tour de France titles, yet Nike dropped him like a hot potato. Winning didn't take care of Lance Armstrong.

Dave Hodge, TSN: I have my pick of NFL quarterback stories -- Tony Romo making roughly as much as Joe Flacco, Matt Flynn apparently headed to Oakland and Carson Palmer to Arizona, and I would say thumbs down to all of that, but instead, it's thumbs down to the Buffalo Bills for signing Kevin Kolb, the former Cardinal and Eagle. This might tell you that the college quarterback the Bills are vowing to draft, whoever he is, can't or shouldn't play right away, but we knew that. It suggests that Tarvaris Jackson isn't a starter, but we knew that, too. Kevin Kolb is only a good idea until some leather-lunged Bills fan shouts "Bring back Ryan Fitzpatrick". That's bound to happen.
