Last week of the first month of NBA action wrapping up this week. Lots to chat about. Let's get to it.

1. Harrison Barnes (Warriors): How about that dunk on Saturday night! Wow-Forceful. Looks like he's made a smooth transition to the pro game. Comfortable at the three-spot. Efficient scorer with good versatility and a nice addition for this improving team. Has played in lots of big games and the best competition you can face at UNC. Needless to say, he's not phased by the jump and acclimation is coming along nicely.

2. Jeff Taylor (Bobcats): Really impressed with his defense and toughness. Great quickness and coverage ability. He guards. Strong in the post and moves his feet on the perimeter. Good competitive motor. Offensive skills are more than adequate. A good get out of Vanderbilt.

3. Boris Diaw (Spurs): Versatile and skilled. Slow and a bit out of shape, yes, but he can play. Off the charts Basketball IQ, who is a terrific complimentary piece on a good team. Makes all the right, fundamental plays. Has had a good career and been with good teams like Phoenix and the Spurs. Was even productive in Charlotte. Won't wow you but he's a good role player to have.

4. Greg Monroe (Pistons): I've always been a big fan from his time at Georgetown. Every time I see him he's improving his overall game. Has made great strides as a pro. He can really pass and is so smart reading defenses. Obviously, he can score and board, but his overall presence is what really impresses me. He gets it and understands game situations and what his role is and what he's needed to do when the specific situation is at hand.

5. Jason Kidd (Knicks): Still has it. Playing at the two-spot and is a steady influence on their team. A winner, simply put. Still an excellent team defender and makes all the smart plays. Can shoot the three-ball and is consistent with his effort.  Masterful move getting him. He's old but his leadership and knack for making things happen is excellent. Value signing for GM Glen Grunwald.
