DeVos: CSA plan could mean big changes for the domestic game

The Canadian Soccer Association is planning to unveil its brand new 2014-2018 strategic plan sometime in January 2014. If that document contains what I've heard it contains, many of my wishes for Canadian soccer are about to become reality. ...more

deVos: Whitecaps find new head coach in-house with Robinson

The Vancouver Whitecaps have found a replacement for head coach Martin Rennie, who was fired at the end of the 2013 MLS season. And they didn't have to look very far. Rennie's former assistant coach, Carl Robinson, was officially announced as Vancouver's new head coach on Monday, bringing an end to the club's six-week search for Rennie's replacement. ...more

deVos: Talking tactics of defending wide free kicks

One of the talking points during Arsenal and Everton's fantastic 1-1 draw on Sunday was how high Arsenal were defending wide free kicks. The game commentator said it was a dangerous tactic from the Gunners, as it invited the ball to be played in behind the defenders. I disagree, for a number of reasons. ...more

deVos: Meteoric rise looks likely to continue for Yekka

Two months ago, if you had told 16-year-old Sura Yekka that she would be a member of Canada's women's national team, she wouldn't have believed such a thing was possible. It would be completely understandable if Yekka was overwhelmed by it all. Players who she grew up idolizing, the likes of Christine Sinclair and Diana Matheson, are now her teammates. TSN soccer analyst Jason deVos explains why she isn't. ...more

deVos: Many fans do not understand the laws of the game

Whenever an incident happens on the field, every fan expects the referee to make the correct decision. With the benefit of instant replays, it is often much easier to make those decisions. But as TSN's Jason deVos writes, what makes a referee's job more difficult is that the vast majority of fans do not fully understand the laws of the game. ...more

Defensive frailties reared their ugly head once again for Canada's men's national team, as they conceded a third-minute goal to the Czech Republic on their way to a 2-0 defeat in Olomouc on Friday. When is Canada going to have a competitive men's team? When are we going to become legitimate contenders to qualify for the World Cup? TSN Soccer Analyst Jason deVos has more. ...more

deVos: Is a playing career essential to be a coach?

Arrigo Sacchi once said, "You don't have to have been a horse to be a jockey." With regards to becoming a professional soccer coach, that is an expression that one will hear often. In fact, it is a mantra for aspiring coaches who never made the grade as professional players. But is it? Does a professional coach need to have a professional playing career first in order to be successful as a coach? TSN soccer analyst Jason deVos has more. ...more

deVos: What Whitecaps' Mattocks needs is some tough love

deVos: Magnificent Nesta calls time on legendary career

Much like his play on the pitch over the last twenty years, Alessandro Nesta's retirement announcement was understated.
