After a weekend in which three of the top four teams lost, the unbeaten Atlanta Falcons emerged as the new number one team in the TSN.ca NFL Power Rankings.
The Falcons didn't so much earn their place as they did take it by attrition. Once the Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots suffered defeats, the Falcons had the clearest path to No. 1, even if they barely escaped with a home win against the Oakland Raiders.
Similarly, it was a good week for the Chicago Bears to be on a bye, because they jumped from six to two without even playing a down of football. When others are falling, though, it can pay off to stay in the same place.
Among the big movers this week, the Washington Redskins moved from 16 to 11 after another tremendous performance by rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III in their 38-26 win over Minnesota.
Seattle's comeback win over New England helped the Seahawks move into the top half of the rankings, going from 19 to 13.
With an overpowering win against Kansas City, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gained ground, climbing from 27 to 22.
After getting stomped at home, the San Francisco 49ers dropped from two down to eight and the Arizona Cardinals fell from 12 to 20 after losing the game to Buffalo and quarterback Kevin Kolb to injury.
On the wrong end of the mismatch in Tampa Bay, the Kansas City Chiefs plummeted from 24 to 31.
