DETROIT, Michigan - As the Blue Jays were playing on a chilly Thursday afternoon in Detroit, Brett Lawrie was in game action of his own in Dunedin.

Lawrie went 2-2 with two doubles and a walk in an extended spring training game, the next step in the rehabilitation of the ribcage muscle he strained on March 6.

Lawrie played four innings in the field, all at third base.

General manager Alex Anthopoulos suggested on Wednesday that Lawrie would need 20-25 minor league at-bats before he joins the Blue Jays.

"I would say Dunedin right now, just because of the weather," said Anthopoulos of where Lawrie would play his rehab games. "We may change that, but if all of a sudden … we haven't gotten that far, but he would definitely start there."

Lawrie's projected to return during next weekend's home series against the Yankees at the earliest. Failing that and barring another setback, Lawrie should be ready to play in time for the next road trip, which begins April 22 in Baltimore.
