The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced a two-year contract extension for quarterback Josh Portis.

He was scheduled to become a free agent.

Acquired in a trade with the Toronto Argonauts in July, Portis dressed in the final three games for Winnipeg in 2014.

“We believe Josh has tremendous upside as a mobile quarterback in our league,” said Blue Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters in a team release. “He works hard at practice and in the film room every day, and he’s a player we wanted to keep in our organization moving forward. The ability to have multiple options at the quarterback position, that you can truly feel comfortable with, is invaluable, and as Josh continues to grow, he would definitely fall into that category.”

Before joining the Argonauts in 2013, Portis spent time as the Seattle Seahawks’ third-string quaterback.
