The Columbus Blue Jackets bought out the remaining two years of defenceman Fedor Tyutin's contract on Wednesday. He is now an unrestricted free-agent.

General manager Jarmo Kekalainen said the move was a result of depth on defence and the need to add financial flexibility.

Fedor Tyutin is a pro in every sense of the word and has been an important player for the Columbus Blue Jackets for many years, but this decision is a result of the current depth on our blue line and to add some financial flexibility for our club moving forward,” said Kekalainen in a press release. “I want to thank Fedor for his many contributions and wish he, his wife, Sarah, and their family all the best moving forward.”

The 32-year-old Russian scored one goal and added two assists over 61 games with the Jackets in 2015-16, his eighth with the organization.

The Blue Jackets will save $3.291 million this upcoming season after the buyout, according to General Fanager.

In other news, the Calgary Flames placed forward Mason Raymond on buyout waivers while the Nashville Predators did the same with forward Eric Nystrom. Colorado Avalanche defenceman Brad Stuart cleared buyout waivers as well.
