Columbus Blue Jackets forward Brandon Dubinsky has underwent abdominal surgery Monday morning in Philadelphia and is expected to miss up to six weeks, according to head coach Todd Richards.

Dubinsky suffered a lower-body injury at practice on Monday and was ruled out of the season opener after being placed on the injured reserve Tuesday.

The 28-year-old scored 16 goals and a career-high 50 points in 76 games last season. He was acquired by the Blue Jackets in July 2012 in a blockbuster trade that sent Rick Nash to the New York Rangers.

Dubinsky has one year remaining on a four-year, $16.8 million contract he signed with the Rangers before his recently signed six-year extensions worth $35.1 million kicks in. He is due to collect $4.65 million this season.

The Alaska native has appeared in 498 NHL regular season games, scoring 99 goals and 184 assists for 293 points. He also has eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points in 37 playoff games.
