TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays selected right-hander Lucas Harrell from triple-A Buffalo on Saturday morning and designated outfielder Ian Parmley for assignment.

The 32-year-old Harrell has not played in the majors this season. He has a career 21-35 record with 304 strikeouts and a 4.77 earned-run average over six seasons with the Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers.

Harrell was called up in part to add an extra arm to the Blue Jays' bullpen after Friday night's game against the Boston Red Sox went 11 innings. Starter Marco Estrada lasted only 4 1/3 innings.

The 27-year-old Parmley had four plate appearances in three games this season for Toronto.
