BERLIN — Werder Bremen has signed Senegal defender Lamine Sane from French side Bordeaux.

The Bundesliga side announced the transfer of Sane, younger brother of Hannover defender Salif Sane, on Thursday. It did not disclose the length of his contract nor the transfer fee.

The 29-year-old Sane will be expected to fill in following the departure of Alejandro Galvez to Spanish side Eibar.

Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann says "he has the potential to stabilize our defence further."

Sane played 188 Ligue 1 games for Bordeaux since joining the side in 2009.

Also Thursday, German defender Anthony Jung switched on loan from promoted Leipzig to Bundesliga rival Ingolstadt. Leipzig also sent Omer Damari, a forward, on loan to the New York Red Bulls until the end of the year.
