MILWAUKEE - The Brewers have placed Khris Davis on the 15-day disabled list after the left fielder tore the meniscus in his right knee.

Davis is expected to have surgery Tuesday. It is unclear how long he might be out.

The third-year outfielder got hurt taking an awkward swing while striking out in the first inning of Saturday's 7-3 loss to Arizona.

Tyler Wagner was called up from Double-A Biloxi to take Davis' roster spot and start Sunday against Arizona. He was sent back down to Double-A after the Brewers outlasted the Diamondbacks 7-6 in 17 innings.

Wagner went 3 2-3 innings, giving up nine hits and five runs. Manager Craig Counsell said he didn't want to demote Wagner, but had to in order to get a fresh arm for the pitching staff.

The team said it planned to promote Tyler Cravy from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday for the start of a three-game series in St. Louis.

Jonathan Lucroy is also expected to rejoin the team for the Cardinals series after the All-Star catcher missed more than five weeks with a broken toe.
