TORONTO - Connor Brown scored once and set up another as the Toronto Marlies beat the visiting Rochester Americans 3-1 on Saturday in American Hockey League action.

Spencer Abbott and Greg McKegg also scored for Toronto (4-4-0), which avoided a third straight loss, while Christopher Gibson kicked away 25 shots for the win.

Defenceman Stuart Percy, who was sent down earlier in the day by the Maple Leafs, dressed for the Marlies.

Phil Varone scored the lone goal for the Americans (6-3-0). Nathan Lieuwen made 21 saves in defeat.

Toronto went 0 for 2 on the power play while Rochester failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.
