BEREA, Ohio - Browns starting quarterback Josh McCown is not practicing because of injured ribs, leaving his status for this week's game in Pittsburgh uncertain.

Wearing a baseball cap, McCown only watched as Johnny Manziel and Cleveland's other quarterbacks went through the early stages of Tuesday's practice. Coach Mike Pettine is expected to provide an update on McCown following practice.

Manziel started last Thursday in Cincinnati in place of McCown, who has not disclosed whether he has broken ribs.

Pettine gave his players the weekend off and he planned to meet with his coaching staff to discuss the quarterback situation. Even if McCown is healthy, Pettine could decide to give Manziel another start. The second-year QB played well in the first half before being shut down by the Bengals.

Also, the Browns waived running back Robert Turbin, who was claimed on Sept. 10 when the team released wide receiver Terrelle Pryor.
