Marchand incurred the injury midway through the third period of the Bruins' 4-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night when he took an inadvertent elbow to the head from Dale Wiese.

This marks the second concussion for the 27-year-old Halifax native who's entering his seventh NHL season. Marchand was concussed in April of 2013 when he took an elbow from defenceman Anton Volchenkov then of the New Jersey Devils. Volchenkov was suspended for four games for the hit, while Marchand missed the Bruins' next three games.

The Bruins are next in action on Monday afternoon when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning. Defencemen Zdeno Chara and Dennis Seidenberg are also questionable for the contest with an upper body and back injury, respectively.

The team also announced that forward Matt Irwin had been placed on waivers. The 27-year-old native of Brentwood Bay, British Columbia is in his first season with the team after signing as a free agent in the summer from the San Jose Sharks.
