Los Alamitos, CA - Horse of the Year finalist California Chrome returned Saturday to Los Alamitos' main track for another workout.

The 4-year-old chestnut colt worked six furlongs for a second straight week and was timed in 1:11.60, a full second faster than last Saturday.

"Outstanding. I got him in 1:11 2/5, but the official time was 1:11 3/5," assistant trainer Alan Sherman said.

The 2014 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner is trained by Art Sherman for owners Steve Coburn and Perry Martin and is ridden by Victor Espinoza. The colt will next work on Monday, Jan. 19 after his connections return from the Eclipse Awards at Gulfstream Park next Saturday.

California Chrome is expected to make his initial 2015 start in the $500,000 San Antonio Stakes at Santa Anita on Feb. 7.

California Chrome concluded his 3-year-old season on Nov. 29 with a solid win on the turf in the 1 1/8-mile Hollywood Derby at Del Mar.

California Chrome finished third in the Breeders' Cup Classic on Nov. 1 just a neck behind winner Bayern and runner-up Toast of New York.

Early last year he posted three straight wins at Santa Anita in the California Cup Derby, San Felipe Stakes and Santa Anita Derby before taking the first two legs of the Triple Crown.

He was fourth in the Belmont Stakes and sixth to Bayern in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing on Sept. 20.

California Chrome has banked $4,222,650 from 16 career starts with nine wins.
