Los Alamitos, CA  - Newly crowned Horse of the Year California Chrome had a seven-furlong workout Monday at Los Alamitos.

The 4-year-old, trained by Art Sherman, covered the seven furlongs in 1:27.40 with his regular jockey Victor Espinoza riding.

California Chrome was awarded the 2014 Horse of the Year honor Saturday night shortly after receiving the Eclipse Award as the year's leading 3-year-old colt and gelding.

"It's an honor to be nominated and to win these two prestigious awards," co- owner Steve Coburn said.

California Chrome, winner of last year's Kentucky Derby and Preakness, is expected to make his initial 2015 start in the $500,000 San Antonio Stakes at Santa Anita on Feb. 7.
