Evening Draw

An all-Canadian team is up 15-6 on Team Europe at Canada Olympic Park after Friday's draws wrapped up.

The four-day competition includes team, mixed doubles, singles and skins games. A total of 60 points are available, so the side that earns more than 30 points by Sunday is the champion.

The host team earned 3.5 out of a possible six points in the afternoon singles round and followed up with three out of a possible three points in team play in the evening.

Brad Jacobs, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., defeated David Murdoch of the United Kingdom 6-5 in Round 4 of team competition.

Winnipeg's John Morris cruised to an 8-3 win over Niklas Edin of Sweden.

And in the other team game, Ottawa's Rachel Homan drew the button with last rock to nip Anna Sidorova of Russia 4-3.

"Clean sweep, that was good," said Homan.

Afternoon Draw

The Canadian women had a great singles draw as they took all three available points Friday afternoon, extending their lead over their Europeans to 12 - 6 at the Continental Cup from Calgary.

The Canadian men didn't have the same luck losing two matches and drawing another in singles. Canada and Europe split the morning team event draw.

Singles is an unique event where individual curlers attempt six different types of shots, the run through, draw to the button, draw the port, the raise, hit and roll and double takeout, for various points.

Val Sweeting beat Margaretha Sigfridsson 19-16, Rachel Homan topped Anna Sidorova 20-11 and Jennifer Jones bettered Eve Muirhead 20-14 for the Canadian sweep on the women's side.

As for the men, John Morris fell to David Murdoch 21-13, Thomas Ulsrud edged Mike McEwen 23-22 and Brad Jacobs and Niklas Edin tied at 16 apiece.

Morning Draw

Team Canada and Team Europe each grabbed 1.5 points during Friday morning’s team event draw on day two of the Continental Cup in Calgary.

Margaretha Sigfridsson of Sweden took care of Olympic champion Jennifer Jones and her Winnipeg rink while arguably the best curler on the planet in Mike McEwen beat Thomas Ulsrud of Norway 7-2.

Edmonton's Val Sweeting made a draw to the four-foot on her last throw of the game to tie Scotland’s Eve Muirhead 4-4. Each rink earned half a point.
