John Herdman has stuck with the squad that secured Olympic qualification in picking his roster for the Algarve Cup.

The Canadian coach's 21-woman roster for the March 2-9 tournament in Portugal includes 19 of the 20 players who finished runner-up at the recent CONCACAF Women's Olympic Championship in Houston. The lone player missing is veteran goalkeeper Erin McLeod, who was excused because she just joined FC Rosengard in Sweden.

Kailen Sheridan, 20, replaces McLeod, joining Stephanie Labbe and Sabrina D'Angelo in goal. Forward Summer Clarke, 20, is the other addition.

The youthful newcomers help bring the average age of the Canadian squad down to 24 with 12 players 23 and under.

Canada, ranked 11th in the world, will open Group A play Wednesday against No. 15 Denmark before facing No. 28 Belgium on Friday and No. 19 Iceland on March 7. Canada's final match is March 9.

Group B features No. 7 Brazil, No. 16 New Zealand, No. 22 Russia and No. 40 Portugal.

Canada's highest finish in four trips (2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003) to the Algarve Cup was a fourth in 2001.

"Our focus now is on preparing for the Olympic Games," Herdman said in a statement Saturday. "We learned a lot in Texas and we will be working on some key areas throughout our matches at the Algarve Cup.

"Both New Zealand and Brazil will be at the Olympics, so we'll be taking this opportunity to scout those teams and to continue assessing the players available to us as we get closer to finalizing the team that will represent Canada in Rio."

The final three Olympic qualifiers will be determined while Canada is at the Algarve Cup. The Asian Olympic Qualifying Tournament opens Monday, with two berths in Rio up for grabs. And the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland will compete in a mini-tournament March 2-9 to determine the third and final European qualifier.

Other teams already qualified for the 12-team Olympic field are the defending champion U.S., Colombia, France, Germany, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The Olympic women's soccer draw will be held April 14 in Rio de Janeiro.
