MONTREAL - Canadian Kevin Bizier will get his first shot at a world title when he takes on International Boxing Federation welterweight champion Kell Brook on March 26 in Sheffield, England, promoter Yvon Michel announced Thursday.

Bizier (25-2-0), of St-Emile near Quebec City, became mandatory challenger for Brook's title with an impressive 10th-round stoppage of previously unbeaten Frederik Lawson in an elimination bout Nov. 7 in Miami.

Brook (35-0-0) will make a third defence of the IBF belt he earned in August, 2014 with a win by majority decision over Shawn Porter in Carson, Calif. Brook's first defence was a fourth-round stoppage of JoJo Dan of Montreal in Sheffield on March 28 and he followed with a sixth-round TKO of Frankie Gavin on May 30 in London.

The 29-year-old Englishman is angling for showdowns later this year with the world's top welterweights, especially his compatriot Amir Khan. He will be the heavy favourite against Bizier.

Dan posted a pair of split decision wins over Bizier in November, 2013 and December 2014, both in Quebec City. But Bizier, a red-headed righthander, has more punching power, especially to the body, and will bring a different style to the title bout than the crafty, more technical Dan.

"The main thing is the March 26 date is perfect for me," 31-year-old Bizier said in a statement. "I'm already in good condition and I'll get ideal preparation with my coach Marc Ramsay.

"I know I'll be the underdog again, but I guarantee you that I will give the performance of my life. I fought in England as an amateur. Having the crowd against me doesn't bother me at all."

Michel said he hoped to win the right to play host to the Bizer-Brook bout in a purse bid, but instead came to an agreement with promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing to have it in Brook's hometown.

"All the same, I'm very satisfied with the terms we negotiated for Kevin," Michel said.

Bizier, who opens camp next week in Montreal, will not be the first Canadian to fight for a title this year. On Jan. 30, Jean Pascal (30-3-1) has a rematch with Sergey (Krusher) Kovalev (28-0-1) for the Russian's three light heavyweight belts at the Bell Centre.

Kovalev stopped Pascal in eight round in March, but the former World Boxing Council champ from Laval, Que., hopes to avenge that setback after dropping Ramsay to work with renowned trainer Freddie Roach in California.
