MONTREAL - Canada will host Belarus in Fed Cup World Group II play in February, the International Tennis Federation announced Wednesday.

The choice of city, venue, surface and team nominations for the Feb. 6-7 tie will be determined at a later date.

"After a difficult year, we have the chance to look ahead and prepare for our next challenge," Canadian captain Sylvain Bruneau said in a release. "This will be our fifth consecutive home tie and it's up to us to make the most of it. We have proven that we can make it to World Group, and we are going to work hard to try and do it again."

Canada was relegated to World Group II for 2016 after dropping a 3-2 decision to Romania last April in Montreal. The Canadian roster included Francoise Abanda of Montreal, sixth-ranked Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa and Toronto's Sharon Fichman.

World No. 27 Victoria Azarenka led Belarus to an undefeated record in Fed Cup play this season to earn a place in World Group II for the first time since 2012.

This will be the first meeting between Canada and Belarus in Fed Cup. Canada holds the No. 12 position in the tournament rankings, three spots higher than Belarus.

The winner of the tie will advance to a World Group playoff in April.
