CLINTON, P.E.I. -- Richard Weinberger of Victoria and Bridget Coley of Hamilton both collected their second gold medal at the Canada Summer Games on Saturday by winning the men's and women's 10-kilometre open water swimming event.

In the men's race, Weinberger completed a strong first full season of open water swimming taking the gold in just over two hours.

Xavier Desharnais of Sherbrooke, Que., was second and Aimeson King of Oakville, Ont., third.

"This race was one of the most difficult things I've ever done in my life," said Weinberger, 19, who opened the Canada Games swimming finals this past Monday with a victory in the 800 freestyle in the pool.

"I really pushed the envelope in the third (of four) lap. That last lap was just brutal, it was so difficult."

On the women's side, Coley, who raced the five kilometre at the world championships in Rome last month, won the race handily.

Julianne Brown of North Vancouver was second and Karyn Jewell of Delta, B.C., third.

Coley admitted she was still feeling the effects of her 800 freestyle victory in the pool on Friday.

"I went all out in my 800 and I knew I would pay for it today," said Coley, 16. "I decided to make my move in the second lap and I was able to build enough of a lead to just hold on."
